Overview

Job Summary

 

The DC Shipping Assistant is responsible for accurate and efficient preparation of company-wide outbound orders from the Distribution Center of Natural Grocers. This position is responsible for accurately combining grocery, bulk, vitamin, and cross dock orders for each individual customer. This position is also responsible for tracking and documentation of outbound orders, and for safe and efficient palletizing of product to minimize transportation costs.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize and label outgoing pallets for shipping on a daily basis
  • Combine orders from each department, including cross dock orders from vendors and special orders from home office
  • Prepare and track special order shipping including electronics, light construction materials, and advertisements for new stores
  • Distribute accurately company fliers, calendars, and any other packages from home office
  • Track and document daily outbound orders including total pallet counts, mail bags for each store, and any special order shipping
  • Prepare cold boxes as needed
  • Assist with receiving cross dock; document purchase orders and number of boxes for each store
  • Assist with loading trucks for deliveries to out-of-state stores
  • Prepare bills of lading for carriers
  • Communicate with managers and other departments to ensure new store orders are pulled, wrapped, and ready to ship
  • Fill out company shipping logs and file when completed
  • Follow applicable shipping and receiving SOP's, and adhere to Food Safety GMP's
  • Keep the dock area clean and organized; sweep and remove trash daily
  • Assist in bulk and other departments as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 2-5 years of warehouse experience required Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and concisely
  • Must have good attention to detail; accuracy and thoroughness is a must Must have ability to multi-task
  • Basic computer skills required Forklift and electric pallet jack experience required
  • Ability to work with others in a fast-paced team environment
  • Flexibility with working hours to accommodate warehouse needs
  • Must be reliable and on time every day
  • Able to work in seasonally warm or cool environment
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in food production preferred
  • Exposure to 5s and Lean manufacturing methodologies preferred
  • Must have current Colorado Driver's License

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to lift 70 lbs, repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the use of both arms and both hands with full range of motion
  • Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, twist, push and pull on an occasional basis Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb as needed Must be able to reach overhead and away from the body
  • Must be able to walk and stand for at least 90% of the time
