Overview

This position manages the Worker’s Compensation function for the company to include: strategic support of related policies, trainings and initiatives. Analysis and forecasting of loss runs and financial impact, partnering with Worker’s Compensation provider and broker to manage multi-state claims, Transitional Duty program (return to work) management, OSHA record-keeping, maintaining employee files and/or databases.  In addition, this position provides hands-on guidance to managers, employees, and the HR team, acts as a backup to the Leave Administrator, and may participate in other HR related projects

 

Responsibilities

  1. Manages multi-state Workers’ Compensation claims processing and acts as a liaison with the injured employee, store manager, vendors and insurance carrier.
  2. Partners with third party vendor to administer claims and review claim handling to ensure effective cost containment and risk management.
  3. Partners with VP of HR to manage high profile claims involving litigation and/ or settlement decisions.
  4. Reviews current and new work comp laws ensuring company policies and procedures are in compliance.
  5. Researches, analyzes, and provides guidance regarding Workers’ Compensation policies and procedures.
  6. Partners with the Safety Manager to identify trends in occurrences and implement initiatives to limit future risk.
  7. Produces monthly claim related reports and analytics and distributes to multiple departments.
  8. Manages the Transitional Duty program for occupational injuries (return to work).
  9. Maintains OSHA recordkeeping in HRIS including differentiating recordable and non-recordable injuries and creating the 300 logs & 300A summaries.
  10. Trains managers on the Workers’ Compensation process, company philosophies and human resources practices to ensure overall efficiency and consistency.
  11. Acts as a back-up to the Leave / ADAAA Administrator as needed.
  12. Performs other HR related duties or projects as assigned.
  13. Supports HR projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree preferred
  • Experience in Human Resources with a broad base of all HR disciplines.
  • 1-- 2 years of experience managing Workers Compensation and Transitional Duty (return to work) processes in a multi-state environment.
  • Knowledge of HR laws--Federal and State, including FMLA, ADAAA, Workers’ Compensation and general HR governing policies.
  • Demonstrates effective judgment in managing difficult situations with ability to respond to situations with urgency and in a calm and proactive manner.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding employee information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally in person, on the phone, electronically or through other means to individuals or groups. 
  • Customer service oriented
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and HRIS skills.
  • Ultipro experience a plus
  • Strong ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Possesses general business acumen and financial knowledge
  • Strong organization and time management skills
