Job Summary

The Graphic Designer is an expert in layout, production and delivery of all assets across all mediums (video, print, outdoor, digital, social, signage, internal business publications), with specific attention to print production expertise and brand and campaign identity development. The Graphic Designer consistently seeks to enhance the level of creativity executed on all projects under the direction of the Associate Creative Director Brand Marketing to ensure deliverables meet all brand standards and requirements.


Key Responsibilities include the following essential functions, but are not limited to:


  • Delivers design process through execution – understands the business objectives and strategy in order to create designs that ensure the objectives have been met with the proper tone, messaging and visual applications
  • Contributes to the development of brand standards
  • Designs content, version layouts and runs quality control checks on all assets ensuring that assets are compatible with corporate standards related to visual style/branding guidelines
  • Collaborates with creative department partners to develop concepts, and strategic ideas that can be effectively executed within a variety of consumer channels, and a range of mediums (including but not limited to print, video/film, web, photography, packaging development, corporate guidelines, integrated campaigns)
  • Receives direction and originates proposed design/advertising solutions while meeting deadlines on a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Ensures work is reviewed and approved before presenting outside the marketing department
  • Presents work to a range of internal audiences in a clear, professional manner. Includes creative research that will support chosen strategies when appropriate
  • Operates as a brand advocate and shepherds the creative standards with all partners (internal and external vendors); provides creative feedback when required and communicates brand updates
  • Maintains an up-to-date and organized project archive and utilizes the department’s digital assets management systems and file servers
  • Stays up-to-date with design, photography and print production techniques; proposes new technologies and sharing this knowledge with the team
  • Ensures all design layouts are optimized for end-use and delivered according to specifications, production standards, color quality standards and budget
  • Completes retouching on files required for internal presentation and works with vendors for final post-production delivery
  • Creates best in class designs that address the strategic marketing objectives of Natural Grocers

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or other related areas from an Arts College or accredited University
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in graphic design/art direction in retail and/or retail food brand experience, internal consumer brand environment, or advertising agency experience preferred
  • Experience presenting work in a meeting environment to peers and senior company leadership
  • Creative thinker who can provide a solid portfolio of creative ideas
  • Understands marketing campaign development and the various mediums to execute an integrated campaign (e.g. print; video, digital; photographic; variety of media outlets)
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud environment applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)
  • Mastery of print, typography, digital, video, social, outdoor, corporate publications design, prototyping, and production, including detailed management of high volume of design files, and vendors, guiding creative lifecycle through to print completion
  • Flexible and quick to respond to changes in business priorities
  • Ability to work under creative direction and respond well to feedback and critique
  • Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently under multiple, occasionally competing deadlines
  • Proactive and solution oriented with the ability to adapt to changing objectives and deadline
