The Job in a Nutshell:

The Safety and Security Representative is responsible for supporting Natural Grocers’ mission to minimize risk and maximize safety in Natural Grocers stores. This in-store position supports Natural Grocers’ store Crews by identifying and addressing safety issues, de-escalating confrontations, promoting world class customer service, assisting in asset protection, and providing a security presence to ensure the safety and well-being of our Customers and Crew. Must have ability to work a variable schedule as required by location. Days, evenings, weekends, and occasional night shifts will be required as necessary.

Responsibilities

Main Ingredients:

  1. Understands and maintains strict compliance with the law and NGVC policies concerning safety, security, and loss prevention.
  2. Provides a security presence for store Crews at Natural Grocers sites within assigned area.
  3. Assists with de-escalation of incidents, conducts patrols, and accompanies staff as needed.
  4. Directly addresses individuals presenting undesirable behaviors, creating business disruptions, or causing safety concerns.
  5. Directly addresses environmental safety issues including illicit substance or bodily fluid cleanup.
  6. Provides detailed documentation of theft occurrences, escalated incidents, and safety concerns.  
  7. Provides safety and loss prevention training to staff within their region to help mitigate accidents, escalated incidents, and losses in assigned area.
  8. Conducts store walks and audits to review Safety, Security, and Loss Prevention Practices.
  9. Help assess and propose environmental barriers to mitigate loitering, shoplifting, and solicitation in general and at specific stores.
  10. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other Departments and external entities, including but not limited to Store Management, Store Department Managers, Regional Managers, Facilities, Peer Retailers, and Law Enforcement. Participates in incident and accident review of customers and Crew for assigned area.
  11. Helps position cameras.
  12. Creates daily reports summarizing shifts, patrols, and all concerns within assigned locations. 
  13. Provides detailed documentation of theft occurrences, escalated incidents, safety concerns, and other incidents as necessary. 
  14. Reviews and requests camera footage as needed for assigned sites.
  15. Assists construction crews during occasional overnight projects, ensuring location security. 
  16. Communicates with discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  17. This position will regularly travel within local assigned area.
  18. This position may have limited travel outside assigned area.

 

While these above ingredients outline the main responsibilities of this position, all crew are expected to support our locations and assist with store tasks if the situation requires it.

Qualifications

Recipe for Success:

  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. 2 years previous security, retail, or loss prevention experience preferred.
  3. Must have or be able to obtain a license as a Security Guard in the City of Denver, Colorado.
  4. Internal theft case resolution experience preferred.
  5. Basic knowledge of safety, security, and loss prevention.
  6. Effective communication skills both for reporting and for public interaction 
  7. Must possess a friendly and professional demeanor.
  8. Must be detail oriented.
  9. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all situations.
  10. Ability to maintain strict compliance with company policies.
  11. Ability to understand and communicate company policies to other Crew.
  12. Ability to operate and troubleshoot network camera systems.
  13. Able to work independently and make quick, sound decisions.
  14. Able to problem-solve difficult situations.
  15. Must be able to communicate challenges from the perspective of Store Crew, as well as offer possible solutions.
  16. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Open availability including days, evenings, weekends, and occasional night shifts is necessary.
  17. Must pass a background check.
  18. Intermediate skill with standard PCs and business software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.)
  19. Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel within assigned area.
  20. Must be able to work in a retail environment and help with assigned store tasks as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs. Must also have the ability to occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs. with a team lift.
