Overview

The Job in a Nutshell:

The Public Advocacy Coordinator and Content Developer (PACCD) is responsible for monitoring and responding to proposed legislative or regulatory changes that could impact the company’s interests, including a range of issues broadly affecting retailers, the company’s ability to market and sell natural foods and dietary supplements and provide nutrition education services. The PACCD is a public affairs advocacy representative for Natural Grocers and is responsible for coordinating and mobilizing successful public advocacy campaigns across a range of issues impacting the company. This position is hybrid on-site and requires a minimum of 2 days working from the SSC Lakewood office.

Responsibilities

Main Ingredients:

  1. Responsible for staying informed about the legal and regulatory framework encompassing a range of regulatory and legislative issues affecting retailers, the sale and marketing of dietary supplements, and access to nutrition education through our Nutrition Education Department (NED), Nutritional Health Coaches (NHCs) and store Crew.
    1. Manages all necessary advocacy campaigns by creating materials, providing training, representing Natural Grocers in media interviews, talking to law makers, and rallying the stores to participate in letter writing and email advocacy efforts.
    2. Regularly reviews pending legislation at state and national level with regards to issues broadly affecting retailers, the sale and marketing of dietary supplements, and access to nutrition education.
  2. The PACCD will conduct research regarding legislative and regulatory developments and will create written educational and advocacy content.
  3. In addition, the PACCD acts as an educational resource for company Crew and community members regarding public affairs issues affecting access to natural foods and dietary supplements. The PACCD supports Natural Grocers front-mission to enhance the health and wellbeing of our customers, communities, and Crew.
  4. This role requires a passionate, outgoing individual with enthusiasm for public affairs, strategic communications, legislative and regulatory research, natural foods, nutrition science, and dietary supplements.

Qualifications

Recipe for Success:

  1. Minimum of 2 years’ public affairs or strategic communications experience
  2. Strong writing, analytical and advocacy skills
  3. Ability to analyze and interpret complex legislation and regulations
  4. Interest in nutrition or related field
  5. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  6. Has excellent project management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  7. Has impeccable follow-up and follow-through skills to meet company deadlines.
  8. Has the ability to act independently and autonomously with little supervision.
  9. Has the ability to prioritize multiple tasks requiring deadlines.
  10. Works well with interruptions and changing deadlines.
  11. Must be self-motivated with a high degree of personal integrity and professionalism.
  12. Tolerates prolonged viewing of a computer screen.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally push or pull up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to constantly use the computer for data entry and use of mouse.
  • Must be able to constantly sit, use fine motor manipulations, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to frequently grip, bend, twist, and turn.
  • Must be able to occasionally walk, stand, squat, kneel, and reach above chest as needed.

 

Environmental Requirements:

Must be able to work occasionally with cold, heat, sharp tools and equipment, noise, contact stress, dust, fumes, and congested worksite.
