    Job Summary


    The Category Manager Front End is responsible for the development and maintenance of core sets and schematics for categories. They are responsible for negotiating with suppliers to ensure competitiveness, adding value and enhancing margins for Natural Grocers. This position assists the company in maintaining a competitive edge and profitability and staying in tune with current trends, seasonality and process development. They may supervise one or more support roles and must be active in educating and supporting store level to ensure successful implementation of company objectives related to purchasing



    • Development and maintenance of core items in front end sets, cards, books, gifts, mercantile and house wares including:
    • Work with all Category Managers to incorporate appropriate items in front end sets:
    1. Review new items
    2. Discontinuation of slow sellers
    • Work in coordination with Nutrition Coordinator on implementing, regularly updating and managing core book , hotline book orders, deals and returns
    • Place New store orders
    • Working with coordinators to ensure execution at store level and consistency across chain.
    • Negotiation with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, added value and enhanced margins.
    • Follow through and execution to store level including:
    1. Order minimums
    2. Rebates, terms and freight allowances
    3. Exclusive products and deals
    • Additional Product Management:
    1. Ensure new products meet Natural Grocer's expectations and quality
    2. Implement price changes and product updates at appropriate timing
    3. Organize, communicate and ensure negotiated product returns, guaranteed sales and recalls are executed and any credits recouped
    • Work with pricing coordinator, accounting and vendors on pricing including:
    1. Evaluation of price points for competitiveness while maintaining healthy margins
    2. Resolve price and/or freight discrepancies
    • Maintain professional and partnering relationships and exceptional communications with:
    1. All internal stakeholders, especially store level personnel and coordinators
    2. Suppliers, brokers and all outside contacts

    Any other duties or projects as assigned by management. Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are expected to be ''hands on'' and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.



    • Previous Category Management or buying experience and strong knowledge of supplements and nutrition needed
    • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, have exceptional interpersonal communication and follow through skills
    • Previous management & training experience preferred
    • Intermediate Microsoft Office experience.
